Hi, I’m Coach Tyriek, the founder of Black and Queer Fitness. Born and raised in Philadelphia, my fitness journey began under the guidance of my grandmother, who ensured we had proper nutrition and physical activity. At 13, struggling with being overweight and coming out, I felt lost. My grandmother noticed my struggles and introduced me to Tae Bo with Billy Blanks, sparking my interest in fitness.

Early in my career, I worked at the Queer Gym, where I learned the importance of creating supportive spaces for the trans community. This experience inspired me to start Black and Queer Fitness in 2021, a health and wellness company celebrating and supporting the diversity of the Black and queer communities.

I believe in the power of personal connection in fitness. By knowing each client’s name and pronouns and engaging in meaningful conversations, I strive to create a colorful and vibrant class environment where everyone feels seen and heard. My journey with HIV has also been a significant part of my story, and I advocate for proper treatment and education about the disease, and start doing so with MEN’S HEALTH Magazine since 2020.
